Vera Dolan

Ms. Dolan is a Life Expectancy expert who specializes in calculating accurate and precise life expectancies using life insurance methods. She has been a life expectancy expert since 2006, and is an approved life expectancy expert with the U.S. Department of Justice.

Ms. Dolan’s life expectancy calculation methods have passed a Daubert challenge in U.S. federal court, and have been used successfully in both state and federal courts. She investigates all factors that affect an individual’s risk of death, including adverse medical conditions, substance abuse, risky behavior and criminal activity. These factors are used to adjust general population life tables to more accurately reflect the effect of these factors on the individual’s life expectancy.

Ms. Dolan received a BA in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins University, and a MSPH in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She started her career performing underwriting and mortality research in the life insurance industry, and continues to conduct cutting-edge cohort mortality studies to improve risk assessment, as well as writing underwriting manuals for the life and health insurance industries. She has authored over 100 articles on mortality and life underwriting; many of these have been published in peer-reviewed medical journals. Ms. Dolan is an excellent speaker, having made dozens of presentations to actuaries and life insurance underwriters.
